How long can I check out material from the library?

Answer

Loan lengths are determined by the type of material you want to borrow and your current status and role at Allegheny. Different types of items have different loan periods.  Some general rules are below.  Please stop by or contact the Library Services Desk for more information.

Common items (books from the lower floor).  Student due date is the end of the semester.  Employee loan period is one year from checkout.

Main Floor items (books from main floor collections): One month; no renewal.

Reference books (lower floor, compact shelving): These items are useable in the library and are not typically loaned to patrons.

Interlibrary Loan: 12-16 weeks; no renewal.  Items needed longer may be reordered.

Course Reserves: Determined by the instructor; either 3 hours, 24 hours, or 1 week.

Equipment: One week; no renewal.

Films: Most films are one week; no renewal.  Certain titles are useable only in the library and may not be loaned out.
